| REMINISCING MAGAZINE
SETS |
Reminiscing - a publication
exclusively devoted to Buddy Holly and The Crickets, was
first published as a newsletter and mailed as loose sheets.
Only eleven issues were published in magazine form. Many of
these issues contained previously unpublished (at the time)
photos of Buddy Holly, along with a lot of new and other
things. Previous wrapped sets of ten issues, all different
from the 1980's are now out of
stock.
A number of stray issues are
available and are packed four to a set. These are running
out fast, so if you want some examples of Reminiscing
magazine, this is the only way to get them.
While
they last!

REMINISCING NEWSLETTER
BOOKLET 5-8 |
Bill Griggs founded the the
International Buddy Holly Memorial Society in 1975 and
operated it until 1991. During the first few years, Bill
published a newsletter, Reminiscing, that was typewritten on
loose sheets. Later, it became a full-fledged magazine,
complete with pictures. Bill stopped publishing Reminiscing
in 1986 and began publishing Rockin' 50s magazine. Although
a few back issues of Reminiscing are available,
newsletter issues have
never
|
been re-printed with the exception of this
booklet. After newsletter issues 5 - 8 [your set 1977-1978] went out
of print quickly due to rapid expansion the second year.
Subsequently, the four issues were reprinted and bound with a soft
cover. These are the only newsletter issues that have ever been
reprinted. Remember, although this is a 40 page booklet, it is
simply a re-print of the four newsletters that were produced on a
typewriter, then photocopied. No photos but lots of stories, "Bits &
Pieces", and a "Showcase" section (interesting to see what prices
existed on Buddy Holly records and other items 25 years ago).
Highlights in these four issues are: ISSUE #5:
Interview with Robin Luke, Interwiew with Buddy's widow Maria Elena,
and the contents of Buddy Holly's notebook. ISSUE #6:
Interview with Nikki Sullivan [part 1], Interview with Fred
Travelere from the Buddy Holly Story movie. ISSUE #7:
The Buddy Holly Story movie premier in Dallas, Interview with Nikki
Sullivan [part 2], interview with Jerry Coleman of KLL Radio in
Lubbock. Issue #8: Buddy Holly's funeral as told by
Nikki Sullivan, Interview with Fred Milano of the Bellmonts,
Interview with Fred Cohen and Steve Rash (producer and director of
the Buddy Holly Story movie and much, much more. Mailed in a regular
manila envelope.

There were 45 issues of Reminiscing all devoted to Buddy

issues were in newsletter format and some were magazines.
Many had photos published for the first time. Buddy Holly
and/or The Crickets were on most covers.
There were 72 issues of Rockin' 50s magazine that focused on
the 1950's rock "n" roll era and heavy on |
the West Texas music scene including Buddy Holly and The Crickets.
These 24 page, professionally printed magazines contained very
little advertising, mostly all text and photos, some very rare and
published for the first time. The person or event on the front cover
usually received a multipage spotlight article inside.
ADOBE CD-ROMs: Three of these CD-ROMs are the 45
